Sky is the limit as Rochester Riverside celebrates its first topping out

Construction milestone marks three months until the first homes are completed

Rochester Riverside, Countryside and Hyde’s £419m regeneration scheme in Medway, has topped out, marking a major milestone in the development of the 1,400-home regeneration scheme.

With three months to go until the first new homes at Rochester Riverside are ready to move in to, Cllr Alan Jarrett, Leader of Medway Council, marked the completion of the main structure on one of the first housing apartment blocks – little over one year on from when ground was first broken on the landmark scheme.

The fitting out of the new building, along with the other apartments and houses, will now commence, in preparation for the first residents to move in at Rochester Riverside in June.

Construction is moving at pace across the initial phases of the development, which comprises 489 homes and a hotel, along with 2,200 sqm of commercial floorspace.

Rochester Riverside is making a real difference to the availability of housing for Medway residents, with 25% of all homes affordable. Countryside and Hyde will also deliver a new primary school, retail space, and over ten acres of green, open space, thereby creating a landmark destination on the banks of the River Medway.

Andy Fancy, Managing Director, Partnerships South (North & South London), Countryside, said:One year on from breaking ground at Rochester Riverside, we’re proud to mark the significant achievement of our very first topping out today. This exceptional rate of delivery on the build programme is testament to our commitment to deliver this landmark scheme within 12 years.”

David Gannicott, Group Director of Business Development for Hyde, said: “The topping out of the first block of housing at Rochester Riverside signifies the contribution to Medway that Rochester Riverside is making; meeting strong local demand by creating new homes in a wide range of tenures.

“We can’t wait to welcome the new residents later this year and see the development truly come to life.”

Cllr Alan Jarrett, Leader of Medway Council, said: “This is a momentous occasion and I am delighted that the first residents of the new Rochester Riverside community are due to be moving in over the next few months.

“This site is Medway’s flagship housing development and is providing much needed new accommodation, as well as a great choice of new homes for Medway residents. Both the show apartment and house look great and will make fantastic new homes for young professionals, commuters and families from across Medway and beyond. Rochester Riverside is in a brilliant location, next to the railway station and just a stone’s throw from the historic cobbled high street.

“I would like to thank everyone involved in this project and I look forward to seeing the next phases of development come to life.”

Rochester Riverside is the region’s flagship regeneration scheme, transforming a previously unused site into a new riverside destination over the next 12 years. The development will uniquely feature 10 acres of landscaped and green open space such as play areas and parks, whilst the new 2.5 km public riverside walkway will open up a key part of the riverside for the first time.
